Guten tag liebe ARC partygoers,
Now that the season has officially
started, it's also time for some great parties and socials at the Amstelveen
Rugby Club. You must have missed the beers after the matches and trainings!
That's why the party committee is kicking off the upcoming season with a
smashing Oktoberfest! On Saturday, October 9, 2021, dressed in Lederhosen or
Dirndls, we will enjoy beer, fun, good food and beautiful German sounds.
Amstelveen will play against Castricum at 3PM and Lowlanders & ARC Social at 4:30PM on this day. Come cheer and
stay for a spectacular party!
Please note:
Ticket sales ends Wednesday night 23:59 uur for tickets including food.
We will check your Corona Check app QR code, and ask for your ID. If you are not fully vaccinated, a negative COVID test is required in the Corona Check app, ALSO for the ARC1 match.

Dear members, friends of ARC,
We can go again! Finally we can start a relatively normal season again! It is true that in the first few weeks we will have to comply with a number of measures, the most important of which is to show a valid corona admission ticket (CTB) when you want to sit down in the bar. During ARC1 matches, the rule is that you must have a valid CTB throughout the grounds, so we will have to check at the gate some time before the match. It's just what it is, but if it allows us to enjoy the most beautiful sport on earth again, a small effort!
Behind the scenes a lot has happened already, the Board Room/Meeting Room has been given a facelift and is almost ready for a festive opening, we are working hard on future trainers through all kinds of training, and building up our referee database. We are always looking for more, so if you are interested, sign up at tc@arcrugby.nl!
Our teams will compete in the following Tiers this year: (please click the links for direct access)

Ladies team
You will notice that this year there is only one ladies team, which plays in a lower league. This is because the ladies have decided not to cluster with Hilversum any longer, but to build our own Amstelveen team. In the first instance, a few ladies from Amsterdam will join the team, but next year we want to have our own team. We wish the ladies of Hilversum a lot of success and rugby fun, and we think back to the many beautiful moments and achievements of the past years with the All Blues with a warm heart!
Social Teams
Furthermore, this year for the first time we have 2 Social Teams in 'competition': ARC Social and Lowlanders Social. These teams, similar to what ARC4 and Lowlanders would be, are teams that focus, as the name suggests, on the social part. Play some good ball, don't be too difficult, and then have a good third half (the only obligation attached to this league). A great place for beginners, or for the more advanced player who cannot commit to a full competition, but wants to keep on playing rugby.
I wish all teams a lot of success and fun, and hope to see you in large numbers along the line!
Kind regards,
Michelle Borm
President Amstelveen Rugby Club

The ARCARD, the new club payment card, is here!
Every member can pick up 1 card at the bar in the clubhouse. How to activate it can be found in the special email you received on Friday 1 October. But, don't worry, there is also a nice instruction on the bar. We hope you enjoy using the ARCARD! And...what do you think of the back?

End of Season Golf Social pictures
|
|
Last 9th of July brought to us happiness in the form of the “End-of-season Golf Social @ Loogman”. If you want to re-enjoy the moment again, you can look at these
pictures taken on that sunny day.
We headed down to Amsteldijk Golf Centre for some short games: closest to
the pin, putting contest, and a 3-hole match.
Afterwards we head to the club
for a delicious BBQ, beers and we gave some awesome awards to the golfers.
We thank Ger Loogman for the sponsoring and Melvin Gale for the organization of this day!

New Coaches
ARC makes you a better rugby player. If you want to field the best players, you need the best coaches. Last month, 16 members of the Amstelveen Rugby Club passed the practical exam of the Coaching 1 course certified by World Rugby.
In an ongoing effort to attract, develop and retain the best coaches for both youth and senior teams, ARC offers formal training in the RugbyNL coaching development programme to all its technical staff, minimum level 1 for all coaches, and level 2 for those with head coaching responsibilities.
The official practical certification took place on the ARC fields on Sunday 12 September 2021. 16 coaches completed this part of the Word Rugby Coaching level 1 course, under the guidance of World Rugby trainer Dominique Danton and the supervision of Tijmen Vader, Development Manager of RugbyNL.

Mixed Ability Rugby start @ARC
Our rugby club is inclusive. Yes, we all know that it doesn't matter who you love or where you come from.
Yet, if we look at the people around us, rugby wasn't available to everyone.
High Performance Coach Micheal Assman has put a stop to that and is started MIXAR today!
Mixed rugby where players with a disability or an extra chromosome here or there play together with other ARCers!
Come along and play along! MIXAR trains every Friday evening from 7:30 - 8:30.

In the
Month of July, we organised rugby clinics
to introduce the sport to the small
members of Amstelveen. Together with Amstelveen Sports and in the framework of Summer Sports we organized 4 clinics of approximately 1 hour, where kids aged 6-12
years old could learn a little bit about the beautiful sport of Rugby in a
playful way.
Rugby
balls, coaches, small hands, tackle pads, running foots were the raw materials
of the clinic, that ended with a 15 minutes game of Tag Rugby.
If you are
interested in having one of these clinics at your school and spread the love
for rugby, please contact tc@arcrugby.nl.

Sports Camps this Fall (3rd party provider)
|
|
After Summer... Autumn approaches
|
|
Last summer we organised a similar introduction to rugby at the VRA Cricket Centre as part of the Amsterdam Cricket Academy (ACA) summer camp.
The future rugby players had a great time with the rugby balls and their friends.
I
f you, your family or friends would also like to participate in an autumn camp, then you are in luck!
|
|
|
|
The Bilingual Multisport Camp Autumn Edition is just around the corner: you can join for one day or all three days, from 10-16 hrs. You do not need to have any experience with the different sports. The camp is intended for 5-10 year olds. Lunch and refreshments are provided.
|
|
The organisation of these activities is done by a 3rd party, not being ARC. ARC can therefore not provide any information nor be held liable.

This season we are going to get better acquainted with our Coaching Staff. In this STUDS, Chris Joor, our Head Coach of the Performance Squad kicks off.

Biography
I was born in South Africa, so rugby is more a religion than a hobby.
Started playing in the Netherlands for Haarlem after I discovered that you can really play rugby here,
My first Ereklasse op match came at the young age of 16 HRC Away and as a direct opponent I had to play against Marcel Eeman
Haarlem relegated however and I decided then that I wanted to give it a try at the national team after having played for <20 and <23 and moved to AAC.
Played for AAC for 20+ years
Played for the Netherlands in both 15's and 7's
Also played for the White Raven and again both 15's and 7's caps
National 7's champion in 2001 ( I think)
Won the Boot 3 times in @ the Amsterdam 7's,
Was part of the Domcity Baba's invitational side that won the Dendermonde 10's, Ameland Beach rugby, Diok Easter Tournament.
Currently still active for Millfield old boys at various tournaments and have finished second in the Amsterdam veterans tournament several times.
I have been fortunate to have many highlights in my rugby career but probably playing against South Africa <23 at the NRCA is the number one choice.

|
|
|
|
World Rugby level 2 and Coach level 3
Besides playing at AAC I was also heavily involved in coaching and as head of the TC.
I coached Waterland for 1 season (first as attack/Backs coach) and after the head coach was fired I was asked to become head coach.
After Waterland decided to withdraw the team from the premier league, I thought it was time to move on too.
That's when ARC asked me to come here. Again as Backs/Attack coach. Unfortunately, we all know what happened last season.
Because David Lipman had to resign due to work commitments, I was asked to step up again and I am very honored to have been asked to do so.
A
s a side job, I am also on the organizing committee of the Amsterdam Sevens as fixtures secretary, where I am responsible for everything concerning the teams/schedules/referees, etc.
|
|
What do I want to give to the players?
|
|
As a coach, I want the players to be able to express themselves as best as possible within a team environment.
What will make this season a success for me?
The season will be a success for me if the teams perform to or preferably above their potential and if we manage to get ARC back into the books as the most attractive team to watch.
There have been several coaches in my career that have helped me become who I am and I like to read a good Biography. (Madden/Jackson/Woorward/Ryan among others)
|
|
|
|
But the quote that has stuck with me the most is: "the standard you walk past is the standard you become" - This is from Sevens Heaven by Ben Ryan (a must read!)
|
|
Favoriete rugbyspeler aller
tijden?
|
|
It is impossible to choose one! If you really want to know, sit down with a beer or two in the evening to discuss it, because there are so many inspiring players past and present.
Well, Chris be careful what you wish for ;-) Thank you for introducing yourself to the club
