Licht aan het einde van de tunnel!

Het lijkt wel of de uitnodiging 'laten we er wat moois van maken dit jaar' dubbel zo hard gevoeld wordt. 

2020 was anders dan anders; een kantelpunt, zwaar, soms saai en soms ook heel verdrietig. Menigeen van jullie heeft zelf plat gelegen, sommigen voelen nog dagelijks de gevolgen. Lichamelijk of zakelijk.

Alhoewel 2020 voor mij al veel persoonlijke groei had gebracht, deed kerstmis er nog een schepje bovenop; door Corona zal ook onze kerstmis nooit meer hetzelfde zijn. Een crisis-situatie, in mijn geval een double-whammy met 2 ouders in het ziekenhuis waarvan pa op de IC en mam die, met passend gevoel voor drama ons op 1e kerstdag heeft verlaten, dwingt je om in het hier-en-nu te leven en te accepteren dat je in een roller coaster in het donker zit. 

Vasthouden aan mijn mantra 'er gebeuren alleen maar mooie dingen' (uitgaande dat alles in principe neutraal is, maar dat jij er betekenis aan geeft) kan dan af en toe best een uitdaging zijn. Maar net als accepteren en in het nu leven, geeft het proberen in alles het positieve te zien me houvast. En, beter laat dan nooit; het haalt me wel eindelijk uit mijn hoofd en brengt me terug in mijn hart. Als ik dan stil ben, vind ik daar aan het einde van mijn tunnel, een allesomvattend gevoel van... dankbaarheid. 

Een onderdeel van die dankbaarheid is weten en voelen onderdeel te zijn van de rugbyfamilie van ARC. Van maatjes die je in het oog houden en er voor je zijn. Van de feedback dat de ARC acties waarvoor we hard werken door jullie gewaardeerd worden, tot de mind-blowing eerlijkheid, kracht en kwetsbaarheid die we ervaren in de MOCAFÉ gesprekken. Díe verbondenheid, die ik ook voel als we samen zingen en door bij te dragen en mijn schouders onder de club te zetten, vormen voor mij een van de mooiste waarden die ik met rugby associeer, en die me licht geven. 

Dus, laat ons uitkijken naar dat wat aan het einde van onze tunnel ligt in 2021, en het samen met open handen ontvangen en aanpakken. 

Ik hoop jullie snel weer op de club te kunnen zien.

Waar kijk jij naar uit? 

Gewoon weer lekker een balletje gooien? Samen 6 Nations kijken op de Club? Competitie spelen, je maatjes weer zien of even een momentje met deze STUDS van februari? We hebben leuke dingen om naar uit te kijken: een prijsvraag, en een lekkere support actie waar je al direct aan mee kan doen. 

Beste leden, vrienden van ARC,

Allereerst hoop ik dat het jaar goed is begonnen voor iedereen, dat de ARC-wijn goed gesmaakt heeft, de boom goed dienst gedaan heeft, en de mondkapjes nog steeds hun bijdrage leveren. Helaas zullen ze dat nog wel even moeten blijven doen. Ondanks dat de cijfers op het eerste gezicht de goede kant op lijken te gaan, zijn er nog veel onzekerheden, en blijven de meeste maatregelen nog steeds van kracht, zoals we op de persconferentie van 2 februari weer te horen hebben gekregen. De sportprotocollen zijn half december weer aangescherpt, en vooralsnog wordt dat nog niet versoepeld. 

De senioren moeten nog steeds alleen of in duos hun rondjes rennen, en ook nog zorgen dat ze op tijd binnen zijn om aan de avondklok te voldoen. Waar normaal de tweedejaars Colts zich langzaam aan in de tweede helft van het seizoen zouden gaan voorbereiden op de overstap naar het seniorenrugby, moeten we ze nu tot onze grote spijt vanaf hun 18de verjaardag vertellen dat ze niet meer mee kunnen trainen. En dat is heel zuur, na een groot gedeelte van het seizoen gewoon met je team getraind te hebben. Dit heeft niets te maken met het wel of niet welkom zijn op de club, maar de overheidsregels laten het op dit moment simpelweg niet toe. 

Iedereen zal begrijpen dat we als ARC altijd iedereen met open armen zouden willen verwelkomen, en ik zou haast zeggen, jongens, meiden, zodra het kan en mag, jullie eerste (legale, want je bent tenslotte 18) biertje krijg je van de club. 

Als ARC vinden we dat we als club ook een maatschappelijke rol hebben. Zoals eerder aangegeven hopen we dat we zo snel mogelijk weer allemaal het veld op kunnen, junioren en álle senioren, maar dit moet wel op een veilige manier. We zullen jullie op de hoogte houden van de ontwikkelingen binnen de Bond en Ereklasse, en hopen daar over een paar weken uitsluitsel over te hebben.

Voor nu, blijf fit, blijf gezond, en geniet van de 6 Nations wedstrijden die er weer aankomen!

Nieuws van de Jeugd Desk

Natuurlijk loopt het seizoen 20/21 heel anders dan we gehoopt hadden, maar we kunnen tevreden zijn hoe flexible iedereen zich heeft aangepast aan het “nieuwe normaal”. 

Vanuit de almaar groeiende staf, die inmiddels uit eengrote groep coaches, trainers, refs en assistent trainers, managers en camera mannen/vrouwen bestaat zien we een zeer goede opkomst van de spelers (van 80%) op training en wedstrijden. We zien de spelers zich snel ontwikkelen, de 2e jaars nemen hun voorbeeldrol duidelijk op zich, de 1e jaar shebben maken zlch het tackelen en passen eigen en voorde nieuwe spelers geldt dat ze zich naadloos hebben ingevoegd in de groep. We hebben in september en oktober een paar wedstrijden tegen andere clubs gespeeld en vervolgens hebben we een groot aantal onderlinge toernooien gehouden. 

Voor de Benjamins betekent dit op zaterdag ochtend 9.30 verzamelen en 3 wedstrijden spelen tegen elkaar in steeds wisselende samenstelling, bij de Minis staat er elke week een rugby variant op het programma. De ene week op een heel veld, dan weer 10’s a side of 7’s a side.

Team Turf staat zijn mannetje en tagged dat het een lieve lust is. Veelal sluiten we af en een harde Yell en een kleine versnapering (mandarijnen, chips of chocolade )We zijn erg blij met de begeleiding van de ouders langs de lijn als coach/ verzorger of in het veld als Ref of camera man. Zolang de restricties gelden zullen we ook in 2021 een beroep op hen doen. We hadden gehoopt om vanaf 6 januari in The Beach (te Aalsmeer) te trainen, maar die is voorlopig afgesloten, dus trainen en spelen we gewoon bij ARC.

Light at the end of the tunnel!

It seems as if the invitation 'let's make something beautiful out of this year' is felt twice as hard. 

2020 was different than usual; a tipping point, heavy, sometimes boring and sometimes very sad. Many of you have been down and out with COVID, some still feel the effects daily. Physically or professionally. 

Although 2020 had already brought me a lot of personal growth, Christmas topped it off. Because of Corona our Christmas will also never be the same again. A crisis situation, in my case a double-whammy with 2 parents in hospital of which dad in ICU and mum who, with appropriate sense of drama left this earth on Christmas Day, forces you to live in the here and now and accept that you are on a roller coaster in the dark. 

Holding on to my mantra 'everything that happens, is beautiful' (assuming that everything is basically neutral, but that you give meaning to it) can then sometimes be a challenge. 

But just like accepting and living in the now, trying to see the positive in everything gives me something to hold on to. And, better late than never, it does finally get me out of my head and back into my heart. Then, when I am quiet, I find there at the end of my tunnel, an all-encompassing feeling of.... gratitude. 

Part of that is knowing and feeling part of the ARC rugby family. From buddies who keep an eye on you and are there for you. From the feedback that the ARC actions we work hard for are appreciated by you to the mind-blowing honesty, strength and vulnerability we experience in the MOCAFÉ conversations. That connection, which I also feel when we sing together and by contributing and putting my shoulders to the club, is for me one of the most beautiful values I associate with rugby, and one that gives me light. 

So, let us look forward to what lies at the end of our tunnel in 2021, and welcome it together with open hands and tackle it. I hope to see you at the club again soon! -Robert, Marcom.

Just want to be able to throw a rugby ball again? Watching 6 Nations together at the Club? Playing competition, seeing your mates again or just having a moment with STUDS February? We have fun things to look forward to: a competition, and a nice support action that you can already participate in.

Dear members, friends of ARC,

First of all, I hope the year has started well for everyone, that the ARC wine has tasted good, the tree has served well, and the mouth guards are still making their contribution. Unfortunately, they will have to continue to do so for some time. Although the figures seem to be going in the right direction, there are still many uncertainties, and most of the measures remain in place, as we heard again at the press conference on 2 February. 

The sports protocols were tightened up again in mid-December, and as yet they are not being relaxed. The seniors still have to run their laps alone or in duos, and also make sure they are in on time to meet the curfew. Where normally the second-year Colts would start preparing for the transition to senior rugby in the second half of the season, we now have to tell them, to our great regret, that they can no longer participate in training from their 18th birthday. And that is very unpleasant, after having trained with your team for a large part of the season. This has nothing to do with whether or not they are welcome at the club, but the government rules simply do not allow it at the moment. Everyone will understand that we at ARC would always like to welcome everyone with open arms, and I would almost say, boys, girls, as soon as you can and are allowed to, your first (legal, because you are 18 after all) beer will be provided by the club. As ARC, we believe that as a club we also have a social role. 

As indicated before, we hope that we can all go out on the field again as soon as possible, juniors and all seniors, but this has to be done in a safe way. We will keep you posted on the developments within the Association and the Premier League, and hope to have a final decision in a few weeks.

For now, stay fit, stay healthy, and enjoy the upcoming 6 Nations games!

If there is one thing we look forward to, it is the 6 Nations.  And this year probably even more than other years because many of you have not seen a pitch for months. Even though we can't all watch it in the clubhouse or pub, it does bring us together in front of the TV.

NEWS from the Youth Desk

Of course, the 20/21 season will be very different from what we had hoped, but we can be satisfied with how flexible everyone has adapted to the "new normal". From the ever-growing staff, which now consists of a large group of coaches, trainers, refs and assistant coaches, managers and camera men/women, we see a very good attendance of the players (80%) at training and matches. We see the players developing rapidly, the second years are clearly taking their example, the first year players are making tackling and passing their own and the new players have seamlessly fitted in with the group. We have played a few matches against other clubs in September and October and then held a large number of inter-club tournaments. For the Benjamins this means gathering at 9.30 on Saturday morning and playing 3 matches against each other in an ever changing composition, for the Mini's there is a rugby variant on the programme every week. One week on a whole field, another time 10's a side or 7's a side. Team Turf stands its ground and tags along. We are very happy with the support of the parents along the line as coach/caretaker or in the field as Ref or camera man. As long as the restrictions are in place we will continue to rely on them in 2021. We had hoped to train at The Beach (Aalsmeer) from 6 January onwards, but it has been closed for the time being, so we will just train and play at ARC.
